Crossbows are now allowed in New Jersey for ALL Hunters during the Archery Season

On Tuesday, June 16, 2009 the New Jersey Fish and Game Council voted on adopting proposed amendments to the 2009 – 2012 Game Code. The Council voted to adopt all the proposed amendments.

The most significant amendment adopted expands the definition of "bow" by removing the prohibition on all draw locking and draw holding devices and by including crossbows in the definition.

This allows the use of crossbows in any bow and arrow hunting season and other hunting seasons for all species where the use of bow and arrow is allowed.

This amendment, is expected to increase participation in New Jersey bow and arrow hunting seasons.

Crossbows are now allowed in Texas during the Deer Archery Season

House Bill 968, that will allow the use of Crossbows by all Texas Bowhunters during the Deer Archery Season has passed and has been signed by the Governor and goes into effect on September 1, 2009

The Fact is

shoot very close to the same
on arrow trajectory.

The compound is shooting slower,
so one would think it would drop sooneer

Which was not the case

We didn't pick the top performers in either category
or make it lopsided to get a huge difference.

Traditional Longbow - Clout Shooting

It is a common misconception among the Anti-Crossbow group that a Crossbow is a much longer range weapon than a Traditional Longbow.

In the sport of Clout Shooting, both Traditional and Recurve Bows shoot at targets 125 - 180 yards away.

Traditional Bows, Recurve Bows, Compound Bows and Crossbows are ALL capable of shooting at long range.

But, NONE have the down range energy, for an ethical shot at that range, when hunting

And with its shorter arrow, a crossbow has even less down range energy than a Traditional Bow.

Ohio Deer Harvest 2007-2008

Archers reported harvesting 78,639 deer this year,
15.8% more than last season.

This year’s Vertical Bow harvest of 36,347 deer
represents a 24% increase over last season.

For the 8th consecutive year Vertical Bow hunters have set harvest records and the annual increases have been enough to push the total archery harvest to record-status each year as well.

Crossbow hunters also set a record this year by harvesting 42,292 deer, nearly 10% more than last year.

Ohio has had Crossbows in the regular archery season
for the past 30 years.

It has not hurt the harvest there,
so why would Oklahoma be any different?

It is not different - It will work in Oklahoma just as well !!

Who is eligible for a Crossbow Permit in Oklahoma and if eligible how can a person get one ?

The Wildlife Department no longer issues crossbow permits.

Hunters who have a permanent disability to the extent that they cannot use a conventional longbow, as certified by a physician licensed to practice in Oklahoma or bordering state, may hunt with a crossbow.

A person who qualifies to use a crossbow shall have in their possession while in the field written evidence of such certification.

You will need to go to Oklahoma Department of Wildlife's website and download a form that your doctor can fill out and then carry that form with you in the field, while hunting with your crossbow.

Hunters with existing permits (lifetime crossbow permit) may use it for as long as the hunter hunts.

You can also carry your expired crossbow permit as proof of permanent disability instead of a new letter (since you had to have proof to get the crossbow license in the first place).

South Carolina Legalizes Crossbows for ALL Bowhunters!

South Carolina Liberalizes Crossbow Regulations
On June 11th, South Carolina Governor, Mark Sanford approved Senate Bill 691 amending the South Carolina Code of Laws related to crossbow use.

This bill amends Section 50-11-565 of the 1976 Code by striking the entire section and replacing it with a new definition of archery equipment.

The amendment to Section 50-11-565 reads “As used in this chapter, archery equipment means a bow and arrow, a long bow, a recurve bow, a compound bow, or a cross bow.”

Prior to this bill, crossbows were legal for handicapped hunters by permit and for all hunters during firearms and muzzleloader seasons.

Crossbows were illegal during archery-only seasons.
Crossbow are now legal for all bowhunters in South Carolina !!!!

Signing up for the American Crossbow Federation

I want you all to take a minute and think about how much you enjoy spending time in the woods with your crossbow. Now think about not being able to do that. Not such a pretty picture is it?

The American Crossbow Federation (ACF) is helping others fight for that same right to hunt with a crossbow. The ACF needs to grow its ranks in every state.

That is where they need your help and just a little of your money.
For $20 you get 4 beautiful color issue of the Horizontal Bowhunter and more importantly, your name gets added to the list of those willing to further the crossbow cause.

It does not take a lot of time or money to help out this cause, but the results can be positive for so many other hunters. Think about it. $20 is not even half a tank of gas in most cars (sadly) and you are helping let other people get out and hunt with crossbows.

The support needs to come from every state, not just the states that already have crossbow season. If you live in MI, MN, OK, TX, WI, NC or wherever, sign up and help the cause.

The tide is turning in the use of crossbows by all bowhunters,
but the ACF needs your help to keep it headed in the right direction.
